| When you compare designs like the Electric Oar, the Gray Gearless, a Lockwood-Ash and the Aerothrust, you have to marvel at the varied answers to essentially the same problem, how to move your rowboat without rowing! While inboards had been around quite a long time, the outboard had no acknowledged design paradigm.
I think this first one MAY be a Grimes Electric Oar, but I did not spot any labeling. What makes me think it is a Grimes is the entry in Peter Hunn's The Old Outboard Book where he has a tiny picture that seems to have the same silhouette as this one. The second example, the "clone", seemed to me to be of recent manufacture...it just felt new...although the maker was obviously familiar with the Grimes type Electric Oar. |
